Metanoia — a fundamental shift in perspective

Metanoia is an ancient Greek word for a deep change of mind, heart, and way of being. It's our name and our purpose.

Our mission

Metanoia advances the science of natural psychedelics through multidisciplinary research — integrating neuroscience, genetics, chemistry, and therapeutic practice — to explore how these substances can safely enhance brain function and key dimensions of daily life: problem-solving, perception, emotional intelligence, and social connection. Alongside research, we build free, science-based public education so this knowledge reaches everyone.

Our focus is deliberately different. Most of today's psychedelic research targets mental illness. Metanoia prioritizes the everyday, healthy person — not someone seeking treatment, but someone aspiring to elevate their well-being, creativity, self-awareness, and human potential.

Our vision

A world where natural psychedelics are safely integrated into personal development practices — guided by science and ethics — helping individuals not just cope, but truly thrive.

Our values

Our hybrid model

Metanoia is structured as a nonprofit foundation with a for-profit research arm. This hybrid model lets us uphold our mission and ethics while accelerating innovation and long-term sustainability.

The entities keep separate boards and finances, and all public-facing education and fundraising benefits the nonprofit mission. This structure lets Metanoia stay ethically focused on research and education while building the resources for lasting impact.

Why you won't find our faces here

The work speaks for us

You will notice that this website names no personalities and shows no team photographs. That is a deliberate choice, and we think it matters enough to explain.

The psychedelic field has too often been shaped by charismatic figures — gurus, celebrities, founders with a story to sell. We are building the opposite: an organization whose credibility rests entirely on the quality and honesty of its work, not on the reputation of any individual. Our book, our research, and our sources are all open for anyone to check. That is where trust should come from.

Staying lean and quiet is also practical. A mission-first organization that spends nothing on profile-building is one where more of every donated dollar reaches the actual work — the research, the free education, the tools we're building for the public.

This is not permanent secrecy. As Metanoia matures, we will convene an advisory board of scientists, ethicists, and practitioners, and we will introduce them properly when they are in place. Until then, we would rather be judged by what we produce than by who we are. Where others ask "how do we treat what's broken?" we ask "how do we unlock what's possible?" — and we would rather you remember the question than remember us.
