Does Metanoia provide psychedelics or sessions?
No. Metanoia is a research and education nonprofit. We do not supply any substance, run ceremonies, or provide therapy or medical guidance. What we do is gather, verify, and explain the science — and build free educational tools around it.
Are psychedelics legal?
In most places, no. The classic psychedelics are largely Schedule I in the United States and controlled in most countries. That said, the landscape is changing fast in 2026: several therapies are in late-stage FDA trials with priority review, some U.S. jurisdictions have decriminalized or opened supervised programs, and a federal order is accelerating access for serious mental illness. None of this is legal advice, and the rules differ everywhere.
What exactly does Metanoia focus on?
The natural psychedelics — psilocybin mushrooms first, then the wider family: DMT and ayahuasca, mescaline, 5-MeO-DMT, and iboga — with the two classic synthetics (LSD and MDMA) covered for a complete picture. And a distinctive angle: not treating illness, but helping healthy people thrive. See the science of personal growth.
Is "natural" the same as "safe"?
No — and we say so plainly. Ibogaine can stress the heart, ayahuasca is dangerous combined with common antidepressants, and any of them can harm someone vulnerable to psychosis or produce a frightening experience in the wrong setting. The classic psychedelics rank low for physical dependence, but the real risks are psychological and contextual. See Safe Use & Integration.
Does the science actually work?
For depression, the 2026 evidence is genuinely strong — a meta-analysis found a standard psilocybin dose clearly superior to control, and pharmaceutical LSD reported one of the largest effect sizes of any antidepressant. For growth in healthy people, the honest answer is "promising, and unproven." We hold both words together and mark exactly where the solid ground ends.
Why don't you show your team or leadership?
On purpose. Metanoia is built around the science, not around personalities — and staying lean means more of every donation reaches the work. As we grow, we'll convene and introduce an advisory board. Until then, we'd rather be judged by what we produce. More on that here.
Are you connected to any religious or commercial group?
Metanoia is an independent California 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 39-2328100). A separate for-profit research arm funds operations, but all public education and fundraising benefits the nonprofit mission, and the entities keep separate boards and finances.
How can I get involved?
Three ways: donate (every gift is tax-deductible and directly funds research and free education), volunteer your skills, or simply follow along and share what we publish. Early supporters genuinely help shape our direction.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Metanoia is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and you'll receive a receipt for your records.
